Airborne Magic Volume 2

Vintage Buses Sydney

Relive the days of single and double deckers, with the driver seemingly outside the body in his "half cab". View with nostalgia the early red and cream, green and cream and the blue and white colour schemes. Hear the distinctive sounds of the Albion, AEC, Gardner, Leyland and Mercedes, from the roadside and on board. Observe pre-run engine checks in the depot, see how route numbers and destination signs were changed.

A remarkable range of buses from Sydney's Bus and Truck Museum and from the Tram Museum, bring all these experiences and more to you as they travel their old (and some new) haunts, in the Streets of Sydney, Darling Harbour, Bondi Beach, and The Rocks. In a bus display on Pyrmont bridge, see the bridge as it opens, ride the opening span, enjoy "driving" the bridge from the interior of the lovely olde worlde control cabin with its polished brass controllers and old electric meters. The monorail train passing overhead, provides quite a contrast.

Buses in this video are 275, 688, 792, 1003, 1187, 1877, 1881, 1923, 1995, 2023, 2087, 2338, 2509, 2643, 2761, 2851, 3131 and 3308. These cover the range from the prototype for the double deckers built in 1935 with a timber frame, through 1937 built single decker, underfloor models, rear engine double decker Atlantean to the first type of the modern series single decker of 1978. Chassis/engines by Albion, AEC, Gardner, Leyland and Mercedes Benz. Bodies by Clyde Engineering, C.C.M.C., Comeng, P.M.C. and Waddingtons.
