Airborne Magic Volume 2

Thirlmere 76

In 1976, a day of NSW Rail Transport Museum operations on the Picton -Mittagong Loop Line was captured on that magic film format, 16mm colour.

3214 4-6-0 in maroon colour scheme and 5461 2-8-0 in black with red trim were the main performers, while 3801 green 4-6-2 is seen in the yard with a sequence filmed inside the drivers cab. This was just before 3801's boiler expired putting it out of action for 10 years.

There are views lineside, on the loco and on the train plus some fairly bouncy pacing shots from a parallel running car. See the Thirlmere Museum site with the almost finished engine shed as the only building on the site. This was silent film, and rather than dub inappropriate sounds, we have opted for tasteful music and a commentary.

The 16mm film was transferred to Broadcast Standard betacam SP and edited on 1 inch. PQ. A
