Glacier Express
The Glacier Express operates over 3 private railway systems, high in the mountains of Switzerland, and the video follows the train over its whole route, in the summer time, starting From St. Moritz on the Rhaetian Railway, continuing from Disentis on the Furka Oberalp, and finally from Brig on the Brig Visp Zermatt railway to Zermatt.
There are scenes in the famous and beautiful resort of St. Moritz and fascinating places like Chur, Andermat, Brig, St. Nicklaus and of course Zermatt with its battery electric taxis. At Brig there is a quaint 4 wheel electric shunting loco with platform ends and side rods and there are good sequences on the interior of the dining car and a sequence of a preserved steam loco operating on the BVZ. There is a good map of the line and diagrams of the tortuous curves and spirals.
The video includes interior views of the modern St. Moritz station, views from inside the driver's cab, and lineside with the train passing absolutely magnificent scenery from lush green fields, mountain lakes, distant brilliant white snow covered mountains and craggy mountain peaks pierced by tunnels. There are camera shots from incredible positions including above the Landwasser Viaduct with its tunnel approach, and lineside views of other trains passing, and the train high above on stone viaducts.
